Synopsis

Album Details
The Nascente Label Compiled this Solid Set of Nuyorican Funk and Soul from the '70s. The Common Thread Here is Danceable Party Grooves, Singalong Vocals, and Lightweight Novelties Shot Through with the Kind of Inexpressible Vibes that Can't Help but Remind Listeners of All-day Bronx Block-parties. There's Not a Duff Track Here, plus a Few of the Best Latin Popcorn Tracks Ever Recorded: Joe Cuba's "el Pito," Palmieri's "ay Que Rico," and Ray Barretto's "Right On." It's an Excellent Compilation for Fans of Early Salsa, Fania-label Funkyness, and the Barrio Nuevo Soul that Energized the Latin Underground During the Late '70s.

Salsa Clasica

(5 out of 5 stars)

"This CD is great! It is a soundtrack to the documentary, ?Salsa: Latin Pop Music in the Cities.? You can find this documentary here under this name. If the 60?s and 70?s were your time you would enjoy this CD and the documentary. If this was not your time, buy it anyway! Enjoy one of the flavors of your culture! Yo tengo nada mas que 20 aNos! The video goes from the migration of Puerto Ricans to USA, musica jibara, musica yoruba, bomba, plena, la danza, and they development of salsa from these in USA. The CD strictly has Salsa and the earliest Salsa Funk. It is a great compilation of the ?pioneers? of salsa. Ray Barretto, Tito Puente, Fania, Eddie Palmieri, Tipica 73, Joe Cuba, Lebron Brothers, Celia Cruz, Seguida, Jimmy Sabater, Ricardo Marrero & The Group.Although all the songs bring you back to your roots, my favorites are ? Fuego Y La Luz, y Baila Que Baila.
