CD Reviews

"The only way past the dark is through it"

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Have you ever felt loss? How about a sense of unfairness at the simple games most people play on one another in order to feel better about themselves? If this CD is any indication, so have the members of Nothing Inside. This beautifully executed CD takes you on a journey though music at times sharp around the edges, dark, ominous, but at other points almost achingly tender, vulnerable. And while the lyrical matter at hand tends to lean towards loss -be it the end of a relationship or the passing of a loved one- the temptation to confine this music to a simple category like "Goth" or "industrial" or even "electronica" completely misses the point. "Stranger" is a musical statement, an open dialouge on the present, sad and self-isolating state of mankind. At the same time it's very catchy, chock full of melodies that will either grab you from the start or seep in upon repeat listening. From a personal standpoint, I would have to say this has become one of my favourite CDs of all time, a piece of music that is always nearby my Stereo for some kind of combination of personal associatons with the songs, along with that more general plauge of having a really good tune stuck in your head and having to listen to it to get it out. The strange thing is, sometimes it feels like that tune was already there, so I am even more in debt to this band for giving me a convenient way to hear it. If you have ever felt the same way, please buy this CD."
