Long Live Death Metal!!!
Pablosa | Buenos Aires, Capital Federal Argentina | 07/25/2002
(4 out of 5 stars)

""Deus Deceptor" is the debut album of Nonexist, formed by Johan Reinholdz on guitars and bass(Andromeda), Johan Liiva on vocals (Arch Enemy, Carnage) and Matte Modin on drums(Defleshed/Dark Funeral). Reading these names, makes you think of what these guys have to offer in this album. Maybe you guessed: DEATH METAL!. Death Metal very well executed by talented musicians. You are maybe wondering (again) what makes this band different from the rest. Well that's up to you, to make your opinion. Let me say that there are lots of death metal clichés in this album, but these guys managed to do it perfect. Violence, anger, fury, speed, intensity, mixed together, with excellent personal touches, that make this album different from the rest. Not melodic death metal, just simple-old-school death metal, very well executed, as I said before, with and excellent sound. "Deus Deceptor" is a great debut, combining great vocals, chaotic drums, and great guitar solos, showing that Johan Reinholdz is more than a good guitarist. I don't have to say there is more of this, and less of that. Just a right and perfect combination, falling, of course, sometimes, in the death metal cliches. When I say death metal, I said death metal, with songs more proper of grindcore than death metal("Carnage bloody carnage").Johan Liiva proves in this album, that the Arch Enemy guys made a mistake letting him go (my opinion). He sings like he did on "Burning Japan", that is, more extreme that in "Black Earth", for example. If all the death metal bands will be like Nonexist, the death metal has a great future!!!! Try it!!! You won't regret!!"
High quality death metal

"I wont waste your time with an extended review on this cd. Plain and simple, its good stuff. Classic Death-esque death metal, loaded up with some great solos, techinicality, and catchy hooks. I especially enjoy the drumming, which is a bit of the more grindcore-ish stop-and-go (such as napalm death) but then returns to a more traditional death metal drumming. undertones of progressive show up here and there, especially in the guitar and bass guitar interludes between stints of brutality. in addition to 9 high quality death metal tracks, the cd also boasts 3 exceptional instrumentals. as far as the vocals go they arent the most raw, powerful, or brutal, but they certainly do the job. he may not be chris barnes or glenn benton, but hes great nonetheless. after all, it IS death metal. final verdict - buy the cd, but dont pick it over something that demands your attention (dying fetus, bloodbath, cryptopsy and opeth are my personal preferences, in that order)."
Brutal Death Metal!

"Nonexist is one hell of a band. The death metal scene will never be the same again. Johan Liiva, singer for Nonexist, is originally from Arch Enemy. He has a gut-wrenching voice that demands respect. Johna Reinholdz has some of the best guitar work i have ever seen in a death metal band. With one listen to Nonexist's new album, Deus Deceptor, you'll know that the new kings of death metal have arrived. If you like Nonexist, also check out bands like Kalmah, Destruction, and Hate Eternal."
