The sophomore release, "The Circus Is In Town", from Nick Dastardly and the Escape Artists is a good ol' straight forward "Americana" gem. The disc is destined for airplay. The group has already received national attention with their '98 release, "Let Go of My Bruised Wing" and it seems that they will only gain more once their latest effort hits the streets. The "Circus Comes to Town" is being self-released. The disc may lack some of the glitz, glamour and technology that a major label might have paid for, but it has an energy and honesty about it that may have been lost in a multi-million dollar studio. Scott Miller's vocals pack a powerful punch. The songs are strong and driving. He is backed by solid guitar riffs, strong bass lines, and rambunctious drums. These guys are having fun and it comes through loud and clear on this CD. This is one of those discs that causes you to turn your car stereo up just a little louder than you should, roll the windows down and enjoy the day.
