My Favorite Album

"A fascinating and beautiful mix of styles (Cajun, Spanish, etc.) "The Big Bad Wolf," "Fancy Waistcoat" and "Clohinne Winds" are my favorites, but they are all superb. The rendition of the Tom Waits song "The Briar and the Rose" surpasses even the original version's sad beauty. The motifs of love and relationships are deeply textured and each song enriches the others. The entire album seems to flow with a sort of narrative. I could imagine a musical might be constructed around these pieces. Niamh Parsons has the most beautiful female singing voice I have ever heard. The lyrics in "Fancy Waistcoat" do not rhyme, but one might be tricked into thinking they do by listening to her sing them. The glorious a cappella finale "Reconciliation" is sung slowly, but with such passion that her voice becomes the music and it never becomes languid. "Loosen Up" is a major influence for my own artwork and one of the key inspirations in my life."
