CD Reviews

Hot, Cool. Tunes
itaniumq | Berkeley, CA | 08/22/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The standout tunes to me are Love For Sale, Witch Hunt, They're Gone, Isfahan, and Cannonblues, but all the tunes are truly great.
The album is delightful from beginning to end. The tunes are awesome, with a wide range of styles, fast and upbeat to slow and chilled, some blues, a smooth bebop, and even a samba. The jazz standards are played innovatively, and solos are incredibly expressive and impressive.A modern yet classical feel from some of the best musicians in their fields.
the solos stretch out far, but remain understandable to any jazz fan. and as mentioned, the recordings are backed by an incredible rhythm section, including Michael Wolff (piano) and John Patitucci (bass)Definitely get this brilliant album, if you're a fan of any jazz, from classical, smooth, even bebop, and newer jazz genres."
Great Straight Ahead Set
Robert Middleton | Boulder Creek, CA United States | 10/01/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This album first got my attention when our local jazz station kept playing the cut "Witch Hunt" by Wayne Shorter. It stood out because of Michael Wolff's great electric piano playing, very reminiscent of Filles de Killimanjero by Miles. The whole album is a delight from beginning to end. Great musicians and a wonderful selection of tunes with some standards such as Love for Sale and Isphahan and excellent originals by Snyder and Wolff. It has a very upbeat happy feel to it and many burning solos. This still finds it's way to my CD changer 2 years later."
"New York Sessions" is BURNING

"Rory Snyder on alto saxophone is joined by Michael WOLFF-piano, Wallace RONEY-trumpet, John PATITUCCI-basses, and Victor JONES-drums on this great straight ahead jazz CD. There is a good mix of standards and originals by Wolff and Snyder, and a lot of great improvisation."
