CD Reviews

So many beautiful songs, so little time

"Just hearing "Fuggi, Fuggi" live will soon have you thinking of pasta primavera, rigatoni, asti spumanti and spumoni ice cream. It's that Italian. This CD also contains a very spirited, "Helas Madame", attributed to Henry VIII himself. (I suspect he had some help on this one) This song is a primer in "courtly love". Meant to be sung as a duet, it tells the story (in French) of a woman all but driving a man to distraction. While not presented as a duet on this album, the lively instrumental interludes provide enough of a counterpoint to convey the sense of the song.Other songs of note are "We Be Soldiers Three", a fine English drinking song, and "Since First I Saw Your Face". These fine musicians truly deserve "all honor and renown"."
This music transports , heart and soul!

"Owain Phyfe has been born for one purpose in this world--to move us to beauty, and to delight! Here is a collection of medieval music like any other, at once soothing and uplifting. The haunting "In a Garden So Green" about the singer's love for his "lusty love", Elori, is in itself worth the price of this collection of beautiful music. But all of this CD is perfection, and transports the listener to a simple manor hall, with a bewitching troubadour singing just for the listener at its center.... Bravo, New World Renaissance Band!"

"Ever since I heard Owain sing at the Renaissance Festival I have been in love with his music. Every song on this album is beautiful. I bought a CD player for my car just so I could listen to Owain Phyfe and The New World Renaissance Band and that is all I listen to anymore. These songs will stay with you, they are wonderful."
