CD Reviews

Best Of CD is a good one!

"I remember The New Seekers mostly for their US hits in the early 70's , like I'D LIKE TO TEACH THE WORLD TO SING, LOOK WHAT THEY'VE DONE TO MY SONG MA, BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE, CIRCLES & others. This is a great collection that includes these & many other singles & LP tracks in their original versions.

Lead singer Eve Graham was definitely one of the singers that gave the group it's sound. She's great & the early 70's material boasts quality performances & harmonies, and songs by the likes of Melanie, Harry Chapin and others. The group had a pleasant sound that weaved together soft rock, folk & pop with nice harmonies. The medley of FRIENDS/WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS and also PINBALL WIZARD/SEE ME FEEL ME add some good theatrical type performances to the songs.

The weakest material they ever did was towards the end of the original group in 1974, when they did some very sappy sing-a-long nostalgic old-time material that were hits in the UK, but not here. You can see why, as it's schmaltz like I GET A LITTLE SENTIMENTAL OVER YOU, YOU WON'T FIND ANOTHER FOOL LIKE ME and NEVERTHELESS [ I'M STILL IN LOVE WITH YOU ] that I bet they were forced to do.

But the earlier hits & quality material is in abundance on this fine CD. Eve Graham was the real asset of this group and her leads [ listen to THE GREATEST SONG I'VE EVER HEARD ] really are from the heart."
