Synopsis

Album Description
"New Grenada explores where Detroit don't go; they aren't a sound, they're a place, and they're where I want to be." - Roddy Bottum, Imperial Teen/Faith No More The dense urban clutter of Detroit instills in its denizens a certain can-do ethic, either with a scream to rise above the surroundings or an innovation that celebrates them. New Grenada chooses the latter. The Detroit four-piece is a bold conglomeration of dynamic rhythms, thundering riffs, soaring synths, and lilting vocals that alternate between male melodicism and female snarling. The group jigsaws their pieces together with equal parts "Confusion is Sex" attitude, sock-hop swagger, and pop deconstruction. Formed in early 2000, New Grenada has ascended the ranks of the indie scene in every conceivable corner. In those few short years, the band has amassed a back catalog to fill a career, including compilations such as Narnack's Confuse Yr Idols: A Tribute to Sonic Youth, from which their cover of "Eric's Trip" earned a stamp of approval from the late DJ John Peel. They've recorded with Brendan Benson, shared the stage with illustrious counterparts, and extensively toured the U.S. and Canada including a stop at the 2005 Athens Popfest.
