CD Reviews

Neuronium's best psychotronic work
Chromefreak | 06/15/2003
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Though not nearly as well known as some of their German or French counterparts (Tangerine Dream, Jean-Michel Jarre), Neuronium has carved out for itself a unique, if somewhat minor, niche in the field of contemporary electronic music. The group's first five discs, culminating with Chromium Echoes, are undoubtedly its best. Though sometimes too derivative of Tangerine Dream and Vangelis, Chromium Echoes contains enough Promethean fire to satisfy even diehard fans of European cosmic music. "Prelude" and the title piece are especially effective as imaginary soundscapes for marooned astronauts on alien worlds. Interested listeners should also check out the group's second and third discs, Vuelo Quimico (Chemical Flight) and Digital Dream--both nearly as good as Chromium Echoes. A bonus for any Neuronium fan is Tomas Gilsanz's artwork, which is absolutely incredible--Roger Dean meets Salvador Dali."
