Album Description

Neil Landstrumm has hacked his initials into history once again with the release of this epic album She Took A Bullet Meant For Me. This full-length electronic sound clash entirely re-chromed "The Sound" with black synth washes and iron percussion on attack mode. She Took A Bullet... bridges a multitude of styles: mixing hard experimental Techno, trashy Breakbeat, doomsday Hip-Hop breakdance, spiraling Electro, and 'tronic Funk then digitally mashing them up. The result? Edgy, moody, and completely schizophrenic. Built entirely in Brooklyn, New York, She Took A Bullet... fills the gap between the more experimental musings of the Scandinavia label, Landstrumm's Peacefrog roots and a cleverly constructed tragic synth-pop sound Ã la early Depeche Mode. Black-lipsticked vocals carry the mysterious "bullet theme" throughout the album, demonstrating Landstrumm's fresh ears many years after the 1998 Pro Audio album and work with Scandinavia Animation for MTV and several video game titles.

One of the best techno 'artist' albums around

"Often techno is best experienced (outside of a club, that is) in mix form, or at least on a compilation where you can hear a number of different takes on the 'bang'. Solo artist albums sometimes get a bit samey (note the otherwise excellent James Ruskin's 'Point 2') and eventually exhausting.

Landstrumm, though, throws so much into the mix that it stays fresh all the way through, without ever really letting up on the intensity. Realising that you can't just hammer away for 50-odd minutes on a record meant for home rather than dancefloor, he redraws the template slightly along hip-hop and electro lines, with more ear-teasing sounds and effects than you can shake a stick at. It's still techno, but with more variety and wit than you'd normally associate with the genre.

Highly recommended for lovers of techno who find their 12"s a bit heavy for armchair listening, or even non-techno fans who want to appreciate the sound without brain damage."
