CD Reviews

Warning! Not what it seems!

"First, lt me say that I'm a big fan of Neil Diamond's. He may not have done much lately, but his legacy is timeless and evokes a time a place and feeling that's hard to find nowadays.

That's why I'm so disappointed in this CD. Simply put, it is a deception. When I saw it in a store I knew I had no CD of his named "Reflections". Looking at the track list, I could see some of his big hits along with tunes that nagged at me (alternate versions of some of his earlier work, I thought), but I couldn't place, along with covers of some other artists' work. Checking the copyright date, it was 2004. So, what a find! I bought it immediately.

It wasn't 'till I opened the CD, thereby rendering it nonnreturnable, that I realized what this was. There is nothing new in this collection. This is a double CD containg nothing more than his previous works, "Rainbow" and "Velvet Gloves and Spit". They are not remastered, they are simply the existing CDs in a new jewel case. In fact, the CDs themselves are labled such, they even have the old MCA logo on them! There is NOTHING on the outside that indicates this package is entirely composed of previously released material. To add insult to injury, you can buy those two CDs separately for less than what this collection costs, so there's not even an advantage in buying this to compete your collection.

This double CD is just a deceptive maketing ploy, and I fell for it. If you love the music here, go buy the CDs under their own names (Amazon has them), save youself a buck and don't reward mislabeling marketeers."
