The Girl Who Defines J-Pop (is Nami Tamaki, duh)

(5 out of 5 stars)

"I was introduced to NT through an issue of GL magazine (strange,i know) and thought "Hmmm...another J-Pop artist!Let the fun begin..." and immediately (...) to listen to her song samples...whooo, i was UTTERLY blown away. The the perfect combination of Nami's mind-blowing vocals and fabulous background music made me want to jump for joy,but i didn't (God forbid i get too perky). I had,at the time, been completely obsessed with Puffy AmiYumi and didn't think my undying loyalty would be abandoned so soon, but as soon as my NT CD arrived it was all that i listened to for a WHILE.

My favorite songs would have to be "Believe" "Destiny" and "Realize".

Believe is the second theme song for Japan's anime series MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM SEED that is sung by NT.It is my 2nd Nami Tamaki anthem (I have four.2 for Puffy and 2 for NT)and i listen to it incessantly on my iPod. This song was on the J-Pop cd,and for good reason. This song is the epitome of J-Pop.

Realize is the FIRST theme song for MSGS sung by NT but it not in any way superior to or worse than Believe. The two songs are equally perfect and different from each other.

Destiny is a very fast and more J-rockish type song in which the chorus is sung in the very beginning. Also in the song, Nami hits really, glass-shatteringly high notes on the words "itsumo" and "yobu". but it is a really good song.

The lyrics docome with the cd,but unless you can translate Romaji into English, you won't have a clue as to what she's singing about.

This is one of the best j-pop cds i have ever bought. hell, it IS the best j-pop cd i have ever bought and lisened to. like i said, Puffy comes really close to taking the award of best j-pop artist...but i gotta hand it over to Nami Tamaki.

Puffy AmiYumi+Nami Tamaki=pure J-Pop****************************

"This is a delightful album of J-Pop from the very clear and clean voiced Nami Tamaki. She sings effortlessly in an unforced yet expressive voice. Her backing is modern electronica.

Yet another beguiling album of modern Japanese pop music with just enough "edge" and a sense of "otherness" to clearly differentiate Ms Tamaki's album from the typical prosaic Western product. To some extent, J-Pop could still be classified as "World Music". Lovers of all things Japanese will enjoy "Greeting"."

"I first heard of Nami Tamaki when i saw her music video "Prayer" on the azn channel...shes so amazing! I like the fact that she was a dancer before she became a singer, so she choriographs(sp?) all her music video's herself! Besides that her voice is amazing! I personally think Prayer is the best song on the album but many people vary..."
