Synopsis

Album Description
Some say that innovation is dead, long since buried beneath old-school soul that dons contemporary threads. But that ain't so. Put your ear to the ground of this new sound born of funk, rock and soul born of melodies that ain't part-time mellow but full-time bold. This sound that plays your eardrums like the congas making your head bob and you wonder... Hmph. This sound is baaaaad. This sound that makes conspiracy cool that makes you think of politics as you switch your hips to a beat that makes your backbone slip while rhythmic intellect keep the lyrics legit. This sound that makes emotion electric, making heartbreak seem so smooth, you wish you had a taste of the ache yourself so this sound can strum your spirit and get you back in your groove. This sound that reaps what the past has sown that still croons of love and liberation that heaps fresh chords on themes sought, sung and sold. This sound, this music, call it Distorted Soul, call it renaissance funk, call it blues now seared red from rock 'n' roll coals. Some say innovation is dead but listen up, that ain't so. by Tasneem Tewogbola

CD Reviews

Great Music, even better live.

(5 out of 5 stars)

"I saw Nadir's new band play live in Ferndale, MI on Saturday, January 31. They were excellent. The CD is very good as well, but this is music that needs to be heard live. He's surrounded himself with some excellent musicians and singers that didn't appear on the album, and they cook. I'd recommend checking them out if you're in Detroit or if they come to your town. As for the music on this CD, this is excellent stuff. Rooted in soul and funk and old school energy, it's also innovative and alive and today. I'm reminded a bit of Ben Harper or Michael Franti, but this music stands on it's own. Standouts are "Sanctified" and "Leave It Alone", but those picks were probably influenced by the live show. All the tracks are exceptional; fresh, new, but built on a foundation of great soul and funk."
