"Quartetto Gelato hasn't recorded in far too long, but at last we have the long-promised CD of Latin American music. There's reason, however, for the delay; cellist Christina Reiko Cooper left the group to get married and start a family, and worst of all, oboist and founding member Cynthia Steljes succumbed to lung cancer. (Her final work can be heard on two tracks.) But with the addition of two new members, clarinetist Kornel Wolak and cellist Carina Reeves, QG has been hitting the road and finding their feet again. "Musica Latina" finds them doing masterful work on many classic works of Latin American music, ranging from chestnuts like "Manha de Carnival" and "Tico Tico" to lovely works like "Solamenta Una Vez" and "Besame Mucho." It's all great fun. Quartetto Gelato truly enjoy what they do, and bring an attitude of mischief and fun to their music that's all too frequently missing in the classical world. Check it out, folks, and here's hoping they won't be so long absent again. (Note to Amazon: Please correctly list the artist as "Quartetto Gelato.")"
