CD Reviews

B-Horror(core)?

"Mr. Hyde is the type of mc that almost frustrates me. His obviously intelligent lyrics and vicous flow could be better used than the death raps he spews at every chance. Granted, he's a master at his craft and Necro brings just the kind of beats necessary to get Hyde's gory point across, but some true concepts wouldn't hurt the appeal of the album. Case in point, "Married to Pain" suffers from a banal concept and teters on irritating with the chorus. However, Necro comes through on the boards and I can't deny Hyde's intense delivery and skills on the mic. "Death Sentence" featuring Sabac Red fairs better, with Hyde rapping from the point of a convict and Sabac spits from the point of view of the jail holder. However, the song is too short, and the outro (sampled from the green mile) is too repitive for repeated listens. "Bums" featuring Necro and Uncle Howie doesn't quite do it for me either, as the "bum bum bum" sample is almost cute and doesn't fit in with the vibe of Hyde and Necro, and Howie's ridiculous spitting at the end destroys the concept and quite frankly has no relevance to the song. Also, the loop employed in "Satanic Wordplay" was also utilized in Yak Ballz song "The Drill" which is not something I'd expect from Necro. However, the posse cuts with the other members of the Circle of Tyrants are amazing, and most of Hyde's solo cuts are brutal as usual. Overall, a tight album, but I'm hoping Hyde will show us a little more Jeckyll on his next cd.

Best Production of 2004

(4 out of 5 stars)

"Mr. Hyde is known for a few things. He is an extremely violent person; he served time in jail, and is Necro's best friend. What people don't know is that he has been crafting this album for over seven years and he does not fail to impress.

Necro gave Hyde the best beats of any hip hop album in 2004 and the production on this is as timeless as Group Home's "Living Proof," or Wu's "Enter the 36 Chambers." Unlike Group Home's album, Hyde is not only an adequate lyricist he is quite thoughtful. While a theme of needless violence rises and sets through each of the songs, there are some very introspective songs like "Bums," where Hyde raps from the perspective of a homeless man and does a commendable job. On "Death Sentence," Hyde raps from the electric chair as he is about to be executed. While on the surface this may seem like gratuitous violence, Sabac lends a hand and raps from the perspective of the inmate's warden. The relationship between the two represents an eerie dichotomy which hasn't been seen in hip hop before.

Hyde also introduces many songs with movie clips that reflect the theme of the track. While not a novel idea, Hyde executes this technique better than anyone else before him. The metal remix of "The Crazies," is also of note because for each person's verse (Bill, Gore, and Necro feature on the song), Necro plays a different guitar riff to fit the person's style. Very slick.

To sum up everything I have said above, BUY THIS ALBUM!

"First of all this cd is sick.Songs like On the Say my name , spill your blood ,the crazies metal version , knife in your spine, married whit pain will leave you whit back chillz.WARNING!THIS CD IS NOT FOR EVERYONE! If you have no problem listening to necro than this cd is for you but if your stricly into POP this is not for you. This cd is not for the weak hearted even in the booklet there pics of gore. This album is dead serious about death and gore and pure violence.Unlike necro albums were you sometimes get little giggles about his dark humour this album is pure raw uncensored gore knife in your spine spill your blood music. I recommend it to all psycho-logical fans out there. Add this one to your collection. Peace"
