Hours and hours of delightful music

"Anyone who enjoys listening to classical music for relaxation in the evening knows how disappointing "classical music" radio stations can be. Sometimes it seems that their post-drivetime playlists are devoted to the ugliest and most avant garde compositions ever to assault the ear -- even (or perhaps especially!) here in New York City. For precisely this reason I recently purchased a 5-CD changer and several of these Philips CD collections of Mozart's works. It is an investment I would heartily recommend to all lovers of good music. What a pleasure it is to put five of these CDs into the changer, push the "Play" button, and enjoy one's evening hours listening to these beautiful divertimenti. If you're looking for quality recordings of Mozart's works at an affordable price, look no further than the Philips Collection. You won't be disappointed here!"

"Vorrei che questo item arrivi fino alla casa, cioè non solo all'ufficio postale. Ritirare all'uffficio postale è inconveniente."
VASTLY OVERPRICED - even used - AND QUITE BLAND

"I suppose that this set can't be beat for the price its going for on the used market - the playing is polished, the ensemble tight, and the musicianship - under Marriner's steady baton - is good.

But it's all so remarkably bland. One disc sounds like another. Each serenade lacks verve and character.

Personally, I'd search out the individual discs, or box set of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, which play the Wind Concertos works with the supple phrasing and extroverted flair that instills a sense of fun in their playing. Complete Wind Concertos And the Serenades & Divertimenti as well Serenades & Divertimenti. If you want them all in one box, you'll have to search and pay a bit more for the used imported DG set, listed on amazon as The Wind Concertos. In contrast to Orpheus - whose legendary precision and joi de vivire seem to make a conductor superfluous - , Marriner and his British band just keeps a steady beat.

If you're simply looking for "some Mozart", you'll be satisfied. Although, last I checked this set was going for a ridiculous amount of money.

If you're looking for an exciting - or even enlightening - musical experience, I'm afraid you need to look elsewhere."
