CD Reviews

New mortal decay

(4 out of 5 stars)

"Coming off the unappreciated behemoth of a cd that was 2002s forensic, mortal decay return with a new album. The band has gone through some changes, most notably the insane vocals of john from chopcore are no more. The new guy sounds cool, but i don't think anyone will fit mortal decays style like john did.

Also this album sees the departure of one of my favorite drummers, anthony ipri, so that means that the speed complex fills and jazz flavorings of his playing are gone right?, Wrong, again the new drummer has some really fast feet, but his cymbal and tom work are no where near the caliber of what mr. ipri is capable of.

You may think i'm bashing this cd, but i'm not, this album is sick....flat out. Thats the only word to describe it, the guitars are heavy, technical , and melodic. The band keeps the break-neck speed, moshy breakdowns, and tasteful soloing chops from the first two cds, but they don't really experiment with those harmonic breaks like on sickening erotic fantacism.

The production isn't as bass heavy on past releases, allowing the more mid range tone of the guitars to cut through, so that you can hear everything clearly, each instrument has its own distinction to it too.

This cd is a much more straight foward release from one of my personal favorite death metal bands, its a great cd i think that forensic is there best though."
