CD Reviews

Nice, Very nice.

"This should've been better, as Morris Day and The Time are one of the most underrated musical collaborations of the last 25 years. As a supporting group for Prince and the Revolution, they were capable of outperforming Prince's band (I personally witnessed this in New Orleans in '83), and they still have a great show even today (saw them in Dallas in 2004). The live songs here are okay, but the production could have been better (louder) and Morris Day's expletives could have been left in, since all of us real fans from the day are old enough to handle a few cuss words. As for the 4 new songs, they served only as a tease. C'mon Morris, you and your people have had enough time to come up with more songs than that! Could've called in some favors from Prince, Jam, Jesse, Sheila, even George Clinton, and given us 11 or 12 new cuts.

Overall, if you know anything about The Time, this is a tour de force that was long overdue. It's hard to understand the thinking that prevented any of the Prince Extended Family from putting out official live material until Prince's 2002 "One Nite Alone...Live!" as these guys were huge concert attractions. Thank Heavens for the bootleggers;)"
Yeees!

"Morris Day's new album, "It's About Time," is worth your money. However, there are some problems that need to be discussed. Firstly, only 4 tracks are new-the rest being live renditions of some of Day and the Time's best material. This Isn't a bad thing, as all of the live material is excellent.

Two inexplicable and regrettable alterations to the live tracks include muting of expletives(even the benign "ass" is removed) and the muting of crowd noise. The live stuff still rocks, though. Only two of the new songs are above average: "Ain't a Damn Thing Changed" and "In My Ride," which features the can't-miss flavor of Day plus equally quirky rapper E-40. If you already like Morris Day and the Time, buy this."

"I was in the front row at the Prince concert in LA on June 5, 2004 (Staples Arena) when Morris Day & The Time did a surprise opening for the show. They were great! The first 8 songs on the CD are recorded LIVE. Track 7 titled "Girl" written and produced by Day and Prince (I mean Jamie Starr) is excellent, as all the old songs written by Starr. This CD is an "old school" must have."
