CD Reviews

Fascinates me so

"Back in '95 a friend shared a couple of Morgana tunes with me. Never heard anything like her before, except maybe a certain Cleo Lane-like vocal quality. Finally getting my hands on a whole album, this collection delivers sweet '60's sophistication. "Don't Explain," "You Fascinate Me So," and "The Moment of Truth" are stunning stand-outs!"
~WILD IS MORGANA~EXQUISITE VOCAL MAGIC!!!

"Never has a singer been finer doing a Cole Porter tune than Morgana King and opening this masterful set of glorious vocal performances is a stellar "Anything Goes" that is definitive and happily Torrie Zito does the sublime arrangements throughout that showcase this tremendous singer to great effect...a Hammerstein/Kern classic "Nobody Else But Me" is mesmerizing while "I Thought Of You Last Night" is haunting and magical showing how Morgana can go places in a song where others never venture. "You Are A Story" is a lush and richly romanatic symphony while the Billie Holiday classic "Don't Explain" is charged and edgy...Morgana becomes playful & swinging making both "Bee-Bom" & "You Fascinate Me So" rhythmic stunners with loose yet very fine vocals that show her full range. "The Moment Of Truth" is a sublime vocal perfectly showcased by a sweeping and fascinating arrangement...fine and extraordinary vocal make this incredible version of "The Shadow Of Your Smile" definitive and "The Best Is Yet To Come" is a stunning tour-de-force vocal and the finale "Wild Is Love" is a perfect ending to a collection of great songs and peerless vocal performances. This great masterwork is the second recording that Morgana made on Frank Sinatra's Reprise Records and it was clear that he knew what he was doing when he signed this extraordinary singer...now if only somebody would release "Gemini Changes" & the MGM/Verve masterpiece "I Know How It Feels To Be Lonely" then all would be well in the world of great music...Bravo Morgana King!!!"
