CD Reviews

Two moods
Hennie Korf | IJsselstein, ut Netherlands | 06/17/2002
(3 out of 5 stars)

"Two lp's on one cd. The first part has six tracks, the second five tracks. I think the first part is the best. You will hear Bob Gordon on his warm sounding baritone and Herbie Harper on trombone in good solo and ensemble work. The second part is not bad, but you have to hear the sound of Bob Enevolsen's tenor to appreciate this part (#9.10.11) To my opinion does he sound a bit shrill, small voiced. The blues track 10 lasts too long (8:32). You will also hear Marty Paich on accordeon on track 8 and 9. The recording quality is pretty good."
Different moods

(3 out of 5 stars)

"Two lp's on one cd. I prefer the first part: you will hear the warm sound of Bob Gordon's baritone combined with the beautiful trombone work of Herbie harper. The second part has Bob Enevoldsen on trombone as well on tenor. His tenor playing is simple but good, however his tone is a bit small. But this is also a matter of taste if you like this or not. The recordings are good, but note that VSOP sometimes uses other material than tapes for the reissue."
