Beautiful Californian Failure is a mercurial break-up album recorded in the pop tradition of the late 1960's and early 1970's. The songs, like moments in a relationship, following an arc of optimistic promises, then to joy lost in confusion, and finally to the hopeful promises made to make things work.
TRex, the Beatles, David Bowie, Chet Baker, Sam Cooke, and Radiohead were all influences for the disc.
