More Scandinavian Candy Dance
Michael | San Diego, California USA | 10/04/2001
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Yet another supremely cheesy bubblegum Euro-dance entry from Sweden, Miss Papaya has an almost-grating baby-girl voice surrounded by thumping dance beats. Her 1998 album, entitled "Pink", is an example of Scandinavia's love affair with candy-coated lyrics and sugary-sweet instrumentation....and is ONLY recommended for fans who can't get enough of this type of music. I looked long and hard before I was finally able to locate this album, and I was pleased with my purchse, but I am a great fan of all dance music, so I was able to overlook the child-like silliness of this album and really appreciate it for what it is. There are only really two strong tracks on this record. SWEET SENORITA(#7)is the cliched "Latin-flavored" track that every dance album seems to have. This is a smooth, fast-paced song with some excellent mariachi horns interspersed throughout. This track is a definite highlight. For a more mainstream, but equally fun song, CASANOVA(#8)is my favorite song on this album. It has a catchy chorus that'll hook you right away. Other good songs are OPERATOR(#1), which is one her most well-known songs; and HERO(#2), which is also very well-known. Most of the other tracks are mediocre at best. "Pink" is an album that follows the recipe that all other great Northen European pop acts follow, and I suggest that major fans of bubblegum pop buy this album....but the rest of you are better off buying "On Ice" by Bambee - she has the same sound and same type of music, but does it much more maturely and with a bit more energy."
Fun Album for Cheese Lovers

"Linnea Handberg is the secret artist behind this project. She has great mainstream music as well at www.linneahandberg.com. Check it out!

Linnea's voice, like a Papaya, is very sweet in this record and quite altered sounding. The songs are cheesy but fun, and to me, got a little too repetitive compared to other Bubblegum albums. However the album grew on me. The Cinderella song is the best in my opinion, although Hero is also very great, especially for DDR fans. I have to say the Party Song is one of the worst songs I've ever heard. It's in the typical Euro Reggae style. The Ballad is nice.

If you like Bubblegum, you'll like it. If you don't, you probably won't."
