(5 out of 5 stars)

"In Miles' autobiography, he talks about this concert:

"Early in 1949, Tadd and I took a group to Paris, France, and played opposite Bird, just like we had done at the Royal Roost. This was my first trip out of the country and it changed the way I looked at things forever. I loved being in Paris and loved the way I was treated... the band was me, Tadd, Kenny Clarke, James Moody and a French bass player named Pierre Michelot. Our band was the hit of the Paris Jazz Festival..."

That being said, there were four other tunes played on the gig that are NOT part of this CD-- maybe someone will include them on a future release that has legitimate cuts and not MP3 versions: 'The Squirrel', 'Crazy Rhythm', 'All The Things You Are' and 'Blues Finale' (which finds Miles jamming alongside most of the stars of the festival including Charlie Parker).

NOTE: Don't buy the other CDs listed under this category here as "Expanded reissue of this exciting live performance at the 1949 Paris Jazz Festival" because they are just MP3's that were put together, and don't say so (see the reviews for those CDs) and don't pay royalties as a result-- the ultimate in bootleg scamming. None of the artists' families see a dime from that sort of thing."
