CD Reviews

A Man and His Music

"This review refers to "The Art of Drowning" by Mike Barnet(CD)...Mike Barnet is a popular local artist who seems to be building quite a following...and rightly so! Transcending the generations, Mike has the traditional sound of legendary folk singers like Woody Guthrie, with a contemporary feel. He has something to say, and does it well. I found myself actually listening to every word of the ten tracks(see buying info for list), as he sings passionately about life, love, and social issues.Mike has a unique style compared to most of what is out there today. His words and music seem to combine a youthful vitality with the poetic soul of an ancient. He puts a lot of feeling into his work, sometimes injecting a welcome bit of humor, and leaves you with something to think about. It is also one of the few albums I can play that is enjoyed by the"older" and "younger" generations in the house.Five stars to Mike Barnet and "The Art of Drowning", not in comparason to the legendary greats, but for the art of putting meaning back into music. If you are from Southern Calif, catch one of his live performances while you can, I have a feeling it won't be long before this talented young artist will be moving on! Check it out...and enjoy....Laurie"

"I have had the utmost privilage of working with Mike on his music in the studio on this latest project The Art of Drowning. I can not fully express the magic that happened in the recording and mixing end of this cd other than to say that you must hear to understand. Of the many artists I have worked with over the past years, Mikes honest love of songwriting and music comes through the mic like no other and is one of the few cd's that I revisit while driving around or just siting relaxing at home. The lyrics tend to hit me in waves as like in a fine piece of art that one sees more and new meanings in the images the more one stares at it. Honestly do not think that I get any money off Mikes CD sales this is not the case yet I just couldn't help to spread what I have been so blessed by in Mikes music and wish that for others as well.
thanks

Authenticity redefined

"Messages of hope...
Someone once told me all the songs that could be written already have been written, they are simply hiding inside a guitar waiting to be found. It appears that Mike Barnet's quest into the inner vibrations of his guitar has yeilded some precious results. Authenticity trancends the boundaries we erect. Mike's authentic lyrics, forged from a life of searching and questioning, have found a home in these melodies. Some of the songs are silly, some funny, some rockin', some soulful and some painful....all are individually crafted and deserve a listen.
You will truly enjoy this little gem."
