Vol. 3 but still magnificent
07/31/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"An excellent selection sung by the possible king of Rancheras. Miguel Aceves is not only blessed with an outstandingly fine voice, sings with the passion necessary for the genre but he also has a magical ingredient which is hard to define. It is this combination which enables him to make memorable recordings out of material which, when performed by other artists, can be disappointing. This may be Volume 3 of his successes but it is packed with excellent tracks ranging from the revolutionary "El Corrido de Durango" to the (usually sad) love songs such as "Ella". "La Malagueña" is perhaps the finest example of his mastery of the occasional use of falsetto while "Fallaste Corazon" has amongst the best lyrics I've heard in Rancheras."
A legend!

"This album shows the best of Miguel Aceves Mejia. This is an album that demonstrates with elegance and drama the style that is know as falsetto-ranchera. Miguel Aceves Mejia is a legend in his native Mexico and the rest of the Latin world. The song "Ella" is a romantic song that talks about a man who is tired of imploring for a girls love and once and for all shows pride in himself by not insisting on the girls love. The songs "Paloma Negra" and "Bala Perdida" are tragic gut-wrenching songs. I adored "Que me toquen las golondrinas" and "Las rejas no Matan". These songs are nostalgic. "El Crucifijo" has a great beginning with the playing of the guitar. But without a doubt "La Malaguena" is my favorite and probably the most famous by Mejia. This is a very romantic song that reminds one of playing a guitar at night while thinking of the girl one is in love with!"
