"To be sure, this album should be in everyone's collection. Heavy funk (akin to many contributions from Daptone Records) prevails here with some excellent vocals from Joseph henry. I highly recommend this album along with Sharon Jones. They will not disappoint."
Funky But Too Derivative

"I love everything I've heard on the Daptone label up to this one, think they're doing great stuff (especially with The Budos Band). But I've got to kind of blow the whistle on this release. The funk offered here is raw, is tight, has a nice groove . . . but somehow it leaves an emptiness at the end. It's just too perfect, too pat, too much exactly what someone trying to sound funky in that Famous Flames way should sound. The Mighty Imperials are quite adept at aping the sound of James Brown and his band in their prime, and maybe should just rename themselves something gimmicky and become a Famous Flames tribute band. They have a song called "Cold Sweat" and another one with the word "Popcorn" in it - geez!! The worst part is when the vocalist comes in - absolutely meaningless, unconvicing funk platitudes sung by someone just mailing it in. These guys know how to play but they need to either find a way to create their own identity or hang it up and become a tribute band."

"A fun, steady groovin' thang. Recording quality could be a little better, and the range isn't really broad--but what is there is an elemental, finger lickin' bucket o' funk worth buyin'. Otherwise it would have been six and a half stars. My cover art is different from what appears on A-zon. Squawk!"
Love it, love it, love it

"Super funky--the only reason i didn't give this five stars is that The Meters did the same thing some twenty/thirty years ago. Check out their early stuff if you like the sound of this CD (or the "Funkify Your Life" box), and the other Daptone CDs are great as well."
