CD Reviews

Hot and explosive.

"For those who don't understand what all the fuss was about the Michel Camilo Trio's work in the early to mid-'80s, this is a marvelous find. The album is one mean smoking session, as the Dominican pianist blows through nine original and standard tunes with cohorts Anthony Jackson and Dave Weckl on 6-string contrabass guitar and drums respectively. The reworking of Duke's "Caravan" is pure genius, while "From Within" burns. Highly recommended to lovers of both jazz and Latin music."
Simply Just Amazin

"There isn't any words that can express this band's talent. Michel Camilo is simply one of the most talented, yet underated pianist in the U,S. today. The single from with shows both the guitarist, and the pianist talent and love for Jazz. This album is recommended to any lover of overall music."

"The song "Rendezvous" is worth the price alone!

This CD is remarkably tight. The songs are very passionately played. The music is inventive, creative, and totally virtuosic. Camilo is a great pianist, no doubt, but this is beyond mere technical skill. This is about the ability to wordlessly convey language and emotion. It has rarely been done more expertly. There is technical skill on display by all associated that is stunning. The music does not suffer one iota because of the complexity and relative verbosity. In many ways, it is enhanced. The frenzy does not feel uncontrolled or chaotic at all. The expressiveness is perfectly matched and the compositions are nicely coherent. "Rendezvous" is the masterpiece. A beautiful, kaleidoscopic composition that leaves you in awe. Buy the CD for this one alone and the other fantastic music will be a welcome bonus. Great CD."
