Synopsis

In the undistinguished field of compilation-type soundtracks, especially those for teen-oriented movies, Stick It actually sticks out. It's obvious that these CDs sink or swim based on their makers' tastes and connections, and in this case the selections are a lot more inventive than we'd have any right to expect from a Hollywood comedy. Missy Elliott's "We Run This" (from her underrated album, The Cookbook) sets the fierce tone. But what follows makes even Missy sound timid as Talib Kweli's furious "Abra Cadabra" and Panjabi MC's infectious bhangra hit "Beware of the Boys" deliver a quick one-two punch. While most of the CD has a hip-hop flavor (though save for Missy that flavor remains decidedly alternative), the few rock songs are well picked, especially Damone's super-catchy "Outta My Way," which sounds like a femme-voiced version of Boston. Happily, New York's saucy Fannypack get two numbers: the bhangra-flavored "Fire Fire" and a powerful dance remix of "Nu Nu." Totally great great. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

CD Reviews

An Awesome Soundtrack
A. Younger | Boston, MA, United States | 05/03/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This is one of those soundtracks that complements and energizes the movie from which it comes. Some particular standouts are Talib Kweli's "Abra Cadabra" and Electric Six's "Dance Commander." Most of the tracks are pure fun, excepting Blink 182's rather generic "Anthem, Pt. 2." Add this album to your collection for days when you want to take life less seriously."
A little disapointed
D. McGlaughlin | Seattle, WA, USA | 11/05/2006
(3 out of 5 stars)

"I was disapointed with this soundtrack. There were SO many great songs (Hello, what happened to the Fall Out Boy song?!) that didn't make the soundtrack. It kind of sucks. The songs on it are good, but I would have liked the other songs on there as well."
Great CD!

"Awesome movie. Good meaning! My daughter has watched it a million times and loves the soundtrack. Good for 10-14 y/o girls."
