Synopsis

Album Description
Mia Miata's Urban Arias brings the textures of Jazz, R&B, Soul, and traditional Negro Spirituals, and cultivates a rich sound known as Jazzy Soul. Jazzy Soul can be described as a fusion of Soul with strong jazz influence. Many say, Mia has created a unique and rich resonance that compares with the likes of Sade, Nina Simone, and Phyllis Hyman. The debut independent release, Urban Arias is a tapestry woven between 15 original tracks, and an interpretation of the Negro Spiritual Lord, How Come Me Here newly entitled Urban Aria. Mia wrote, produced / co-produced all 16 tracks on the album. Mia's rich soprano ranges over 3 octaves. Her credibility stands from being classically trained at the Baltimore School for the Arts in Vocal Performance. In addition to, working with Dr. Nathan Carter and highly acclaimed vocal trainer Betty Ridgeway where she performed with the world class Morgan State University Choir. Additional performances at Morgan State University include, singing with the Philadelphia Philharmonic, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and the Bonn Orchestra in Bonn Germany . Urban Aria's are the unsung songs of the people of the African Diaspora. Jazz is the classical musical genre of the America 's. It is the foundation from which all other genres originate. I wanted to use heavy percussion, bass, flute, vibraphone, flamenco guitar, and saxophone to help narrate my lyrics, says Mia . When asked the question, What inspired your style as an artist?" Mia goes to say, I wanted to incorporate the traditional with the non-traditional. I view music as a journey, and at I want to take my listeners to places not found in music today. From the instruments used to the lyrical content, I want my music to be the ultimate experience." Jazz is relative, Jazz is a state of mind, Jazz is a way of life and Music Is ..."

Exceptional talent!

"What has your soul music done for you lately? I hope it continues to enhance your drive and zest for life. Mia Miata's "Urban Arias" duly compliments the cherished intangibles of love, freedom, and expression. The album is a gem replete with expert production and deep lyrical prose. I caught Mia's vibe while cruising one day and listening to XM Satellite Radio. The track "Music Is" immediately garnered my attention and I began my quest to find out more about this talented woman. She hails from Baltimore, MD and is part of music label Tha Corporation. (Kendall Leonard is also on this label!) Mia's vocals are powerful and through her music, she presents with grace and aplomb. If your soul collection is in need of upgrading then don't sleep on Urban Arias. Sample the sound samples and take note of the reviews. The word about Mia is spreading and her vibe is a timeless treasure. Here at the DJ Consortium offices, this cd is on "heavy rotation." -One- DJ Come of Age"
