"Originally recorded in 1999, Danger Rock Science was buried by Capitol records, who thought it was too weird to release. In label limbo, Menthol struggled for years to get the rights to the recording back. Finally they gave up and actually RE-RECORDED the entire thing with the help of some friends for 1/10 the cost of the original sessions. That's the back story, but this recording stands on its own without any extra romaticizing of the commitment behind it. Not just a revival of new wave bright synth-rock styles, this is a reinvention of glam rock through the lens of an 80s sound palette and updated to 2002 style. They channel everything from Devo to early Roxy Music to lyrical twists worthy of Elvis Costello. Great lyrics, absurdly catchy tunes, solid vocals and an infectiously smart enthusiasm that don't have many equals in the recent crop of pop music. It's tragic that this mostly got overlooked, since it's just as worthy of a breakout hit as the last Fountains of Wayne CD (Welcome Interstate Managers), which is probably the closest comparison to how smart and accessible this disc is. This stuff would be all over the radio in a better world. Please buy this CD. You won't regret it, and if we're lucky it may encourage Menthol to keep developing their phenomenal talent."

"Very listenable, with lots of catchy hooks. It's retro: has a new wave sound.Another album after this and this one will be recognized as genius. Everyone should hear this band.I wish Menthol's first album would come back in print so I could get them some beer money. That is one of the best albums of all time."
Menthol Rocks...

"This record is great. Hard-rockin' w/an eighties bent but better than any eighties band ever. Reminiscent of Bow-wow-wow and Bowie and Flock O' S'Gulls and Weird Science... geeky themes predominate but the bottom line is rock. yes, rock. Menthol rocks the rocks off of poseurs from NY (ie Strokes and yeahyeahyeahs) and 70's Detroit wannabe's. Menthol are men t'y'all...Good fun. A few clunkers are easily bypassed via remote control skip-it tech-nology. Also, please enjoy their deb-you, aka Mother, Gold Record EP, even exellenter..."
