CD Reviews

A compilation that has some of their best tracks
Bert Rinderle | L.A., CA United States | 12/28/2000
(4 out of 5 stars)

"The Dassing brothers created some of the most beautiful and brutal music in the industrial scene during their tenure, and this collection of old and unreleased tracks doesn't disappoint. In fact, I think some of the tracks here are as good, if not better, than anything on Revelations 23 or Where Angels Fear To Tread. Their trademark combination of mangled-beyond-interpretation vocals and flowing synthesizers are evident on "When Worlds Collide" and "Brutal Rapture", which are two of my favorite M&TF songs ever. Other highlights are "Vision", "Day of Ascension" (complete with their typical apocalyptic samples), "Lunatik", and "Overloaded". This 2-cd set is the perfect place for newcomers to start, and contains great additions for familiar fans ("Hope" is a vocalized version of "Virtually Hopeless", an instrumental highlight from Where Angels Fear To Tread). I can't quite give this five stars because it does tend to drag a bit over the length of the discs (the total is over 150 minutes, a bargain for the price), but it proves an excellent album overall for one of the most talented and diverse American electronic bands ever."
