"It's been many years since I first heard "Rhymes...," and countless great albums have come & gone. But, among the 1,500 or so CDs I hold in my collection, Memento Mori finds their way into my CD changer at a higher rate than most others. Yes, it's an extension of Candlemass, obviously. But don't be fooled: Memento Mori goes in a different direction, weaving a brand of power-doom that's rougher around the edges than it's predecessor. I know the countless Candlemass devotees would like to see me drawn & quartered for this, but "Rhymes..." struck a much deeper chord in me than most Candlemass. Interestingly, while Candlemass sustained it's music over several albums (and hopefully more, in the future), "Rhymes of Lunacy" is the only Memento Mori CD I consider essential. While a few tracks from the others stand out, the band was never again able to bring together the powerful production values and foreboding, intense-yet-atmospheric writing of "Rhymes..."This CD was an epiphony in my musical evolution. Acquire it, and may it do the same for you."
