"This is a blues drenched album,, funky blues(Next time you see me) Bebop blues(Licks a-plenty,Groovin High, Blues for Wes) mixed with some beautiful renditions of some ballads where the wellknown "Old Folks" stands out.
I read an interview with Pete Bernstein in the "Just Jazz Guitar magazine" where he says that this recording was not planned at all. neither was there any rehearsel.. still there is no sign of anything else but a complete understanding of each other,, the blues "Licks a.plenty " is a good example of this where Rhyne and Bernstein swings in unison in a masterful way.
Again .. thanks to Gerry Teekens at Criss Cross for giving Rhyne the opportunity to record this and many other albums.. Mel Rhyne is a truly unique Hammond player who can be recognized instantly after only 1 bar...which to me indicates an artist that is true to what he hear inside. Much the same can be said about Pete Bernstein. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!"
