Another great live album from Melissa Ferrick

"It's widely acknowledged that Melissa Ferrick is an amazing live performer, and her live albums are usually terrific. Live at Union Hall is no exception. It includes several songs from her 2006 studio album In The Eyes of Stranger. Most of the tracks are appearing for the first time on a Ferrick live album, so there is very little duplication with her previous 3 live albums.

The hall acoustics were okay, but not superb. As always, Ferrick's between-song banter with the audience is funny and puts a smile on your face. Her performance is mesmerizing and high-energy. It's just her and her guitar -- no drums. If you want a live album with a harder edge, I recommend 70 People at 7000 Feet instead. As a side note, for someone who hails from the state of Massachussetts and who sings (and talks) very fast, Melissa has the clearest enunciation of any singer I have ever, ever heard.

Although her hit song "Anything, Anywhere" (from her 2004 studio album The Other Side) makes its first live appearance on this album, it sounds remarkably similar to the studio version. The highlights for me were One Year, Closer, Don't Say Goodbye and Welcome To My Life.

This is not Melissa's best live album, but is nonetheless great as a standalone recording to round out your Ferrick collection. Also, if you haven't bought Melissa's last 2 studio albums, this live album contains highlights that will help you catch up.

Altogether, another outstanding effort from Melissa Ferrick. 4.5 stars out of 5, with 0.5 star deducted for the less-than-stellar hall acoustics."
