CD ReviewsErotic Wackiness svf | 02/28/2001 (5 out of 5 stars) "Attention fans of Esquivel and "incredibly strange music": this is for you! Swingin' big bands with suggestive erotic vocals? Sign me up! Fun 60s campiness with some pretty impressive musicianship to boot. All these tunes are performed with "wink-wink nudge-nudge" playfully subversive lyrics... you will actually laugh out loud listening to this CD. Bravo to Scamp records for resurrecting this obscure classic! (and what a cover!) " The musical maestro of aural sex! Lori Lee | Los Angeles, CA | 09/10/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "Some would categorize this Henke album as bachelor pad music. And in a sense, it is. But it's so much more than a few hip and lively tunes to enjoy with a stiff cocktail. Instead, it's a collection of musical vignettes that portray the sinister innocence of the 50's and 60's...where guys and gals engaged in playful sexuality rituals of cat and mouse. You know that zip that pulses through your body when someone you've got a crush on looks your way and gives you a playful wink? Henke has the remarkable ability to put that feeling into a musical version that can be enjoyed over and over again. Whereas movie music is very expressive, the addition of visuals aid in completing the `mood'. Henke does it with sound and sound only. Using a few cleverly placed instrumental sounds, the listener is able to `see' an amorous gentleman tickle his girl in hopes of making her a giddy mess and give in to carnal pleasure. In "Open the Door, Richard", a single word is used to express 14 different emotions. It's so fun to imagine what the lady is seeing before her modest eyes! Similarly, in "Farmer John", a single word, along with the help of Mel Blanc's animal sound effects (the voice behind Bugs Bunny and other Looney Tunes cartoon sounds) tell a most colorful story. Sure, there are snippets of lyrics throughout the songs, but what is not said with words, is revealed with amazing expression. In fact, you could listen to some of the songs and come up with a couple of different storylines...a melodious `choose your own adventure'. Sometimes, you can't help but feel like a voyeur...and that only you and Henke know what is going to happen next. " A true psychedelic masterpiece! Woodrow | Brooklyn, NY United States | 06/24/2008 (5 out of 5 stars) "This record makes Esquivel sound like Kenny G. It's a complete bug out. Make sure you play it loud. I've had this thing for over 20 years and never get tired of it. Everyone home should have one."
