Brouwer lays his soul bare, revealing a disarming honesty in themes ranging from loneliness, the loss of a Father, the search for home, consumerism, confession, and the hope and power of surrender. "Unfamiliar" is Brouwer's most transparent work to date, a powerfully honest song about growing up without a Father, the realities of death, and yet the hope of the redeemed hereafter. It's a standout track. The sound of "Unlearning" is a bit of a departure from Brouwer's first CD. The folk/rock/americana sound makes for a perfect fit with heart-on-the-sleeve lyrics and Matt's honest vocal delivery.
