Mathew Sawyer is an internationally respected visual artist, vintage ukelele aficionado, and one-time drummer for the Television Personalities. He's also the man behind The Ghosts, a London-based band whose music has been described by turns as "quietly romantic," "unsettlingly simplistic," and "Hank Williams is at the Ronettes' house putting up some shelves with Mo Tucker and gossiping about Jonathan Richman while Townes Van Zandt sings Raincoats covers." What Blue Birds Blood, the Ghosts first official full-length, really boils down to, though, is simply 12 tracks of pure punk'd up, folk'd out, lo-fi love songs; a good, solid 40-minutes of uneasy listening.
