CD ReviewsForgotten classics 07/13/1999 (5 out of 5 stars) "First of all, ignore the clueless "Emap" review -- this is an wonderful CD. Secret Life is a collection of Material's early singles and contains much of their best work. This is the pre-jazz Material, the music is super groove-oriented with lots of minimalist, hard-edged funk, early 80's rock and a few avant touches. Bill Laswell and Fred Maher are a crack rhythm section, and there's great offbeat guitar work by Cliff Cultreri and Robert Quine. I highly recommend picking this up before it goes out of print."
