CD Reviews

One of Mastamind's Best....
M. Anastasiou | Troy, Michigan United States | 04/23/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is one wonderfully designed piece of art. Mastamind returns as the "Toxsic Avenger" with production by Esham, Dre40oz, Filthy Rockwell, King Solomon, and Poe Whosaine. This album takes you through countless stimulating twists and turns; making it very difficult to get tired of listening to this album. Mastamind's lyrical expertise, deep content, and unmistakable, distinct voice are just as captivating as always. Honestly, there is not one bad song on the entire album. The intro track, "Hell Again" contains samples of Louis Farrakhan which were on the Natas-DOUBELIEVENGOD album, a nice touch while making reference the classic roots of the Natas name. The next track, "Do it Till U Die" is pure acid rap at its finest with a beat as sick as the Swine Flu. "I'm good" has a cool sound and Mastamind spits an array of emotional, spiritual, and psychological verses. "Toxsic Avenger", "Torn", "?", and "Icon" are so hard that they will send chills down your spine. With lyrics and raps all by Mastamind on this album, there is no filller material just a pure book of wicket poetry by the original M&M of Detroit. The only other voice on the album is that of Esham, who holds down chorus for Masta on the last track, "MM Bang" which is to say the least, explosive. This album is so ahead of it's time, its ridiculous. This album deserves "5 out 5 skull and crossbones" for maximum toxicity."
4.5 Stars! Mastamind Comes Out of Nowhere!

"I'm not a big Mastamind fan like the other reviewers. I been trying to get into ESHAM and NATAS lately and someone told me this CD was dope so I ordered it to give it a chance. THE PRODUCTION IS INSANE ON THIS ONE! Really, Esham and the other producers outdid themselves with this one. Each track bangs and the two lead singles are super dope. I have to say Mastamind isn't the best rapper out there, but with this superb production he sounds extremely dope. He just tackles darker, street topics like Esham would, but his voice sounds well placed on the darker songs and he rides the beats very well. Definitely an eye opener and dope CD!"
