CD Reviews

Mary Lee is an innovative singer and songwriter.

"Three years ago I heard this band in New York City. I went to the club on the advice of a friend, and afterwards I was completely enthralled. Mary Lee was singing many of the songs on this cd at that time, proof that she and the band have been on the scene and steadily building a repertoire. The cd is a collection of varied melodic songs, some which are haunting and others which surprise the listener with their fresh lyrics. The instrumentation is nearly a "folk" sound, but it manages to maintain its connection to rock and roll. Mary Lee's vocals are soulful, lending an extra poignancy to the simplicity of the lyrics and instrumentation.I am thrilled to see this cd available nationally. I have been on the mailing list for Mary Lee's Corvette for three years, and I live in Iowa! Finally a star that has been hidden for too long has emerged in the sky."

"I recently purchased a second hand Inner Circle CD; I am quite a reggae fanatic. I got home, popped open the case and put the Cd on the stack along with some others and sat back for a nice long evening of roots vibrations. Mary Lee's rather high and sharp voice cut in right after Peter Tosh's Buck-in-Hamm Palace and although I was shocked and mystified as to how she came to be there, I found her voice to be quite melodious as she was singing a rather nice tune. I listened to the Cd for awhile trying to place the voice; eventually I had to pull the CD out of the stack and see what was written on it. Lo and behold, it was "Mary Lee's Corvette". "Who the heck is Mary Lee?" I wondered, so I turned to ...... for some input, but I really haven't recieved sufficient information here, but I can say, we didn't take the CD back even though she was supposed to be Inner Circle; we're gonna keep her and play her for our friends. She has a nice ballady quality, good melodies, a little bit of country twang without being obnoxious about it; in short, she's really pretty good (but not as good as Jacob Miller...)"

"From "Lonely World" to "The Status With Gladys" this record is skilled, witty and inspired, and in concert the band is even better."
