Song of Mark
LeRoy Griffin | Grand Rapids, MI United States | 12/11/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I have found this music very compelling listening. It grows on you the more you listen. It picks up the major theme of Mark and the individual character pieces are haunting. The tune for some of Jesus' major decisions is captivating. The words used in the call of the disciples can be very inspiring, especially so when facing some major decisions in life."
Real--Captivating--Singable--Moving

"The variety of musical styles reminds one of Webber's "Joseph" and has the poignant and humanly humorous balance as well.

Haugen captures a Jesus who is gentle but far from wimpy, and the One who is fully God & fully human, clearly juxtaposed in "Night Storm" and "I was on the Outside" with the calming of the sea followed by Jesus wondering why he should take time for the Syro-Phonecian woman.

The music is quickly becomes a delightful on-going refrain in your head & heart, after hearing it only once or twice."
Inspiring & moving, while showing irony & humor of the disci

"A rare muscal which is for all ages (both cast & audience). Our congregation produced it, sold out all performances and it has become a mountain-top memory for both the church and the whole community. Haugen's gift for beautifully simple melodies together with lifting up Jesus' compassion for the outcast and his steadfastness with disciples who are slow to catch-on, make the Good News come alive for all who hear and see. It's suitable for Oratorio, street-theatre and full blown stage productions.

"Bread to Share," "Unless You Learn," Wondrous Day of Our God" are gorgeous numbers which open hearts & minds to the be inspired and renewed. "So Good to be Here" is a humorous & heart-warming look at the human side of Peter, James & John and how they didn't quite understand what's going on at the Transfiguration."
