Synopsis

Album Description
Featuring the sounds of a hippo in a snowstorm, a gigantic and fantastic dooflicky machine, and a singing slug, Mr. Sounds serves up an acoustic mix of folk, rock, jazz and bluegrass for all ages. Mr. Sounds features storytelling that leaves plenty of room for the imagination, scores of silly sounds and wacky character voices, and the song Dooflicky Machine, one of three finalists in the 2003 John Lennon Songwriting Contest (children?s music category). And while you?re laughing and dancing, if you listen carefully you just might learn a few facts about a slug?s life, an Argentinean farm, and the instruments that make up a bluegrass band. Witty word play, energetic dance beats, and great acoustic playing are the common musical threads that run through every song, including ten original tunes and two children?s classics (Mama Don?t Allow and My Farm). Across the 12 songs, Mr. Sounds aims to provide high quality acoustic music that is educational and fun for children, teachers, parents, and grandparents.

CD Reviews

Mr. Sounds rocks my son's world
J. Deer | Dayton, OH | 10/24/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Perhaps the highest praise I can offer any children's album is that I am actually glad to listen to it over and over at my four year old son's request. This has been true of both of Mark Weakland's other albums and is true again of MR. SOUNDS. As with all of his other children's music, Weakland treats children with the greatest respect in this new album by offering them a wide range of musical styles; everything from barbershop quartet to a straight out rock shuffle. In each case, he chooses a subject that will appeal to the humor and sensibility of the kids he writes for with no condescention. Unlike with "the big purple dinosaur", these songs have real wit and an interesting melodic hook. "I Sure Love Pancakes" has already become a favorite for my son after only hearing it once (though we've listened several times since). I know that many of the other songs in this album will acheive that status, as well. I'm relieved to know that a writer like Mark Weakland is out there creating fun and sophisticated music for kids that parents can enjoy, too."
Everyone will love it!

"My two year old daughter received this cd as a gift and can't get enough of it. Just as the other reviews say, the music is entertaining and enjoyable for both the kids and the adults. I've given this as a gift now to someone else who loves it as much as I do. I plan to give it again. You won't be sorry purchasing this album!"
