Mario Abney makes his debut with 'Spiritual Perception' on Hyena Records. The 32-year old New Orleans-by-way-of-Chicago jazz trumpeter has been making serious waves of late on the modern jazz circuit. His horn was subsidized by none other than Wynton Marsalis, he appeared on the final episode of HBO's hit series 'Treme,' and by all accounts Abney stole the show at the 2010 Saratoga Jazz Festival. With a sound that draws equally from the inspiration of Miles Davis and New Orleans' second line brass band tradition, Mario Abney's on the cusp of becoming a major new voice in 21st century jazz.
