CD Reviews

Maria Muldaur and child for children (and adults)
M. J. Smith | Seattle, WA USA | 06/16/2000
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I've been a fan of Maria Muldaur since her Jim Kweskin days so I'll admit to being biased. However, this is an excellent album for introducing children to American classics such as "Mocking Bird Hill" or "On the Sunny Side of the Street"; it includes humor from the Jim Kweskin days "Never Swat a Fly"; the Mama Cass "Dream a Little Dream" ... the result is an album enjoyable by children and adults i.e. just what you need for a trip. The use of her daughter on the album is not a gimmick - it works. Her daughter is musical and her presence helps the album project a playful tone. Maria Muldaur is not playing down to children - she is raising the children up to adult music standards."
Gets my 19 month old Dancing!

"I have enjoyed this album from the very start! Not only does it get me dancing, my son enjoys it too! Recommended for all ages!"
Easy Listening for Adults or Children
David L Hutchins | Mesa, AZ | 09/09/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Maria Muldaur has done it all. After the Jim Kweskin Jug Band, she went on to debut on her own with the album simply titled "Maria Muldaur". Some people considered her a one-hit wonder with "Midnight at the Oasis" on that album. Then she started making albums aimed at children. Besides this one, there is the album "Swinging on a Star", which is good too. There may be others, but these two are readily available. Then Maria went on to do a number of the best blues albums ever. Whatever she does, it's great and this is a fun album. While it is called an album for kids, it is just as enjoyable for adults. The kids that accompany her in some of the songs are great too. Side by Side has an adult accompanying (Fred Penner); he also accompanies on another song. Coat of Many Colors features Maria's daughter, Jennie May and she does an admirable job on the song. It's a totally satisfying album and very different than Maria's early efforts or her more current blues albums. The sound is clear and the album is relaxing and enjoyable. Nice album to listen to after a hard or bad day. Bird sounds in Mocking Bird Hill add some fun to a song that has otherwise been done to death by so many artists. It has a fresh sound here, as do most of the songs on this album. Nice arrangements here."
