Synopsis

Album Description
Over an hour of reflection, contemplation, peace and serenity. This is a musical tribute to the ecumenical community in the village of Taiz?, founded by Brother Roger Schutz. The community has been visited by, amongst others, Pope John Paul II, Nelson Mandela & Vaclaw Havel. Music and song are the keys to understanding Taize. A classically trained musician, Brother Roger introduced the form of meditative chant that came to characterise Taiz? and which has been taken up by churches worldwide. The Taize songbook states: "Song is one of the most essential elements of worship. Short chants, repeated again and again, give it a meditative character. Using just a few words they express a basic reality of faith, quickly grasped by the mind."

CD Reviews

A blessing of peace and serenity!

"Because of the price, I was quite hesitant in purchasing Taize Chant for Peace and Serenity. However, the open hands on the cover compelled me to try it.

I was introduced to Taize by two brothers from the community in 2006. Since then, I've purchased other Taize CD's, yet this one is beyond compare. It really is an hour and ten minutes of peace and serenity in the style of Taize.

THIS CD IS AWESOME! It deserves an extra gold star."
Musical and prayerful

"I've found, in the past, that when Taize recordings are done by professional musicians they tend to produce a musically correct "concert" devoid of any sense of prayer. This recording manages to be both musical AND prayerful - not too surprising given Margaret Rizza's background. Highly recommended, despite the price - you will get what you pay for."
It truly does deserve an extra star!

"In a previous review, it was stated that the price is high, but it is worth it. As a serious follower, sometimes performer of Taize, this is an exquisite example of Taize chant. While most of the chants I have heard on other CD's or in worship settings, there is a hauntingly beautiful interpretation of this style by the St Thomas Music group.

Ostende Nobis is a new one for me, and I fell in love with it within seconds upon hearing it. The Gloria III, which I primarily bought it for, as I had no example of this piece, is taken at a tempo I felt fast, until the end of the piece and felt: "Yes, that works just fine!"

Whether a serious student of music/liturgy or looking for a CD for meditation, this is well worth every penny! Sit back, enjoy, pray, sing and rejoice for the gift of Taize chant.

You know it is a good, if not great CD, when it seems to end too soon! This CD ends way too soon.

I also meant to mention that the use of creative percussion on this CD, something one does not usually hear in Taize, is just wonderful, especially on the veni Creator Spiritus!"
