CD Reviews

Phenomenal Duet!
Musician | United States | 10/10/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This CD features 2 of the foremost masters of their art, Ustad Ali Ahmad Hussain Khan (shenai) and Pandit Manilal Nag (sitar). They perform live a full length exposition of rag Desh, a romantic raga associated with the rainy season. Quite simply, the music is absolutely phenomenal. Each one of them alone could perform rag Desh spectacularly. However, the two playing together seem to somehow elevate each other's music to dizzying heights. The listener is left in amazement. This is music at its best."
A beautiful jugalbandi

(5 out of 5 stars)

"I find Manilal Nag's sitar to be exquisite, and to find this gem of an extended Rag Desh in jugalbandi was a great joy. The shennai is such a unique sound and combined with sitar it is lovely. Ali Ahmad Hussain Khan on shennai is fluid, spontaneous, and flows beautifully with Nag's sitar, it is a beautiful two-as-one performance, lovely, technically adept, and alive with ecstatic improvisation. Great music."
