"This is among the Top 10 albums released in the 1980s. Minneapolis spawned a slew of successful artists during the 80s, from Prince to the Mats to Husker Du to Soul Asylum, but the next level below it contained some killers - The Mighty Mofos, Trip Shakespeare, Run Westy Run and The Magnolias. The Mags hit paydirt (artistically, not record-sales wise) with "Dime Store Dream," a frolic through Minneapolis Uptown culture with a driving hook-filled rockfest. Distorted guitars sprint around and through the nasal-twang vocals to create a world you could see from the road or from the barstool. All without self-pity but full of self-conciousness. They don't come with much more charm than this. For those who want to sample some lesser-known bands from Minneapolis, this should be your first choice."
