This CD openly and joyously presents the musical expression of a very alive and musically well-trained woman living in modern times. This is the first recording of Bettie Ross for Alternative Classical Records. The work breathes with life and her expression of A Magical Time of Year. Here is what Bettie had to say about her inspiration for writing this music:
The end of fall and the beginning of winter are filled with beautiful landscapes of the changing weather: the leafless trees, rain, snow, fog, mists and ice. There are gatherings of family and friends, reflections on life, and looking ahead to the new year just starting. For me, these things create a magical time of year. "I'm a composer/pianist and multi-keyboardist. I write what inspires me, and my music crosses genres. So, what do I call it? Alternative Classical. Yep, Alternative Classical, a new music genre. It's not new age, it's not clearly classical, it's not just jazz, it's not pure pop, and it's not always instrumental. Alt Classical is music that is very contemporary; a music that is influenced by life and by all genres. That's what I write: Alternative Classical." Ten of the CD's 12 tracks are solo piano. On two of the tracks, Winter Solstice and Serenade for a Beloved Being, Bettie is joined by guitarist Frank Blumer. Sheet music is available at www.bettieross.com.
