Synopsis

Album Description
"Superb artistry in the lost art of organ transcription...to play that many lines with only ten fingers is technical wizardry, but to do it with feeling and magic is indeed rare. The combination is exciting and captivating." -AMERICAN RECORD GUIDE This was the best selling organ CD of 1999, and set the stage for Conte?s performances at the American Guild of Organist?s national convention in 2000. Originally on the Dorian label, now available on Gothic! Symphonic favorites transcribed for this most symphonic of organs. Conte is by far the best-known American performer of orchestral transcriptions, and has the unique resources of the world?s largest musical instrument at his disposal. "It goes without saying that he gives a first-rate performance." -THE DIAPASON "Music making of the highest order...rich in nuance and virtuosity...bravo Peter Richard Conte!" -THE AMERICAN ORGANIST

Not bad

(3 out of 5 stars)

"I would think most people who would buy this CD would get more to hear the organ itself than the tracks contained in it. The organ sounds grand in a rich acoustical space. Lots of color.

Night on Bald Mountain is by far the best track of the album. The Sorcerer's Apprentice is played much slower than most people are use to hearing. Everything else is rather forgettable.

Here, it's the organ that shines not really the performer.
